City Church Volunteers

City Church Volunteers

A new relationship was developed today with NHS of New Haven and City Church of New Haven. Sunday, July 29 marked a one-day campaign by the organization, called “I Heart New Haven,” where a couple of hundred church members split into groups to serve at volunteer projects throughout New Haven.

NHS of New Haven hosted two groups at the Davenport Children’s Garden in the Hill neighborhood. With the help of about 25 volunteers, this community garden received a very helpful kick-start to the growing season. Raised beds were fixed up, painted, and its soil turned over, a bench was cleaned up and painted as well as the entry trellis at the garden, weeds were wacked and bushes were trimmed. All in all, it was a fantastic day for which Leanna Largie, Chris Prokop and the rest of the gardeners were very appreciative of all the hard work.
